God Begins to Answer Job and Job Listens
This meditation is based on a passage for September 13, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
Text: Job 40:1-24
Reflection and Question: Finally, after all the give and take between Job and his friends, God speaks up — first, in the previous chapter, on the act of creation and now on God’s power over creation. Job shows his wisdom in acknowledging that he has had his say and agreeing to be silent in the face of God’s response. And the heart of God’s reply is a question, “Have you an arm like God, and can you thunder with a voice like His?” Even with our modern advances and all the advances yet to come in human knowledge or capacity, the answer is “No.” If you were Job (and we are), how would you respond to God’s power?
